Questions & Answers

Why is the color of the solution not changing the way it’s supposed to?

Make sure you shake each of the reagents properly before using them, as they will otherwise not work properly.

Is the Fluval ammonia test kit affected by ammonia binding / locking supplements?

The Fluval ammonia test kit uses the Indophenol method, which is typically not affected by ammonia binding / locking products. Given that there are many such water supplements on the market today, we cannot guarantee this will always be the case.

Other ammonia test kits generate results in 5 minutes. Why does it take 20 minutes for the Fluval ammonia test kit to give a result?

Fluval uses a modified Indophenol method for its ammonia test kit, which entails a complicated reaction between the various reagents. While an increase in the concentration of a specific reagent could reduce the wait period, Fluval has opted for a more environmentally-sound approach that, while extending the wait time, is much less wasteful.
