Species Spotlight | Pinktail Chalceus

Aquatic expert Tom Sarac provides an in-depth overview of an oddball aquarium fish – the Pinktail chalceus (Chalceus macrolepidotus)! Less-commonly seen in the hobby, the Pinktail chalceus is a sleek predator, incredibly agile and fast swimming. Given its large adult size, its skittish disposition and its tendency to be frightened by minor disturbances, a very large, well-covered tank is necessary to ensure the fish doesn’t hurt itself or jump to its death. The Pinktail chalceus’ care requirements are more particular than most, but if satisfied, they are a gorgeous, fascinating species to keep.
