Species Spotlight | Otocinclus

Aquatics expert Tom Sarac provides an in-depth overview of a very useful genus of fish – Otocinclus! A great addition to planted aquariums, these tireless algae eaters are employed by most of the world’s top aquascapers to help combat algae growth in their aquariums. A somewhat more delicate species, Otocinclus do best in mature aquariums and in large groups of their own kind. Avoid large, boisterous tankmates, and be sure to offer them a varied diet of fresh vegetables and dried fish foods with lots of plant content.
